Kate was a MBA major at UCLA where she met Archie Kidder. When he proposed, she accepted no doubt helped by the two-carat engagement ring he offered. What Archie didn't mention was that his father had synthesized the stone from two carrots. Since Kate's father was a real estate whiz and her mother an investment banker, they began planning Kate's wedding with the precision and effort of the German General Staff planning Hitler's invasion of the Low Countries and France.
