The Battle of Jing Province (荊州の戦い, rōmaji: Keishū no Tatakai), also known as the Battle of Jing, refers to a series of conflicts fought for the domination of the southern province. It was one of the Nine Provinces, or one of the nine classic divisions, of China at the time. Each kingdom sought to control it completely for strategic value. Under Yuan Shu's request, Sun Jian was sent to attack Liu Biao. Initially, Sun Jian's forces easily overpowered and outmatched Liu Biao's men, but Sun Jian was lured into an ambush, and killed. Sun Jian's death would force his army to retreat.
