This is true for the vast majority of deciduous trees in temperate and polar regions of the earth. Tropical regions do not have "autumn" seasons as such, so this does not apply. Tropical deciduous trees tend to lose their leaves at the start of the dry season and regain them at the start of the wet season. There are also a handful of deciduous trees that grow and lose their leaves all year round without being influenced by the season.
