The Gaetano Region was an outlying region of the Orion Colonies. During the New Days of Orion history, a period of colonial expansion, great wealth and cultural blooming, a growing strength in the outer regions coincided with a weakening centralized government at Botchok, the homeworld. Many Colonies grew tired of paying taxes to Rigel and getting little back in exchange, and so minor disputes over tariffs and trade agreements escalated into full-scale corporate warfare. Some Colonies formally broke off relations with Botchok and declared their independence
