In Cambodian mythology, srei ap are a type of vampiric spirit which can detach the upper- from the lower-half of its body and feeds on fecal matter. Its analogues (other vampiric creatures) are the Aswang (Tagalog, Bikol, Visayan), Manananggal (Tagalog), Mangalok (Cuyonon), Naguneg (Iloko), Iaman Iuob (Tagalog), Kasudlan (West Visayan), Boroka (Iloko), Abat (Waray), though most of these feed on fresh organs, not feces. Srei is Cambodian for “woman” and ap means “[unknown]”.
