Varian Weylan was a Corellian senator in the New Republic and later the president of the collaborationist Provisional Galactic Republic, a regime established by the Yuuzhan Vong during their invasion of the galaxy. Initially reluctant, he decided to step up to the challenge in order to "protect the galactic populace", as he himself put it. In Weylan's view, he was taking up the task in order to protect the citizens of Vong-occupied territory, however, he became more fanatically pro-Vong by the end of the war, and viewed himself to be one of them. Long hours of Yuuzhan Vong indoctrination left him not fully sane. After the war ended, he was captured on Coruscant and held in prison until 30 ABY, when he was found guilty of treason and executed.
