Bristol Rovers faced the present, re-formed incarnation of Newport County for the first time in August 2013, some 26 years after their last meeting with the original club of the same name. The previous incarnation of Newport County played the Pirates 60 times in the Football League and in national cup competitions prior to them being wound up in 1989.
