Katrina Lennox is a survivor of the now destroyed Raccoon City. She managed to escape before the Umbrella Corporation closed off the only exit out of the city and was on her own until she met Cobra Ferguson, a man who she fell in love with and they married in 2000. While running from Zombies in Miami, she was bitten but didn't turn. Cobra and Katrina left on his boat and reached Diamond Island where they stayed there for the 11 next years.
