Kent State University was an institution of higher learning in Kent, Ohio on Earth, founded in 1910. Kent State was infamous for an incident on May 4, 1970, when troops of the Ohio National Guard fired weapons at students protesting the war in Southeast Asia, killing four and wounding nine. Curtis A. Wellborn, a student at Illinois State University, evoked the tragedy at Kent State several months later, during a similar tense confrontation between student protesters and armed Guardsmen on the ISU campus.
