Houseblades were the house soldiers of the Tiste noble families in Kurald Galain. They made up the garrison of the noble homes and strongholds and protected the nobles as they travelled. They were organized like any other military unit and were often staffed by veterans. Houseblades could be recruited from within a noble's holdings or from outside. In many cases, they stayed employed with a family all their lives.
