Abbas Qais (pronounced AH-bahss Kayss) is the maternal grandfather of Pasco, Halmaedy and their other three sisters and father of Zahra Acalon and Isman Qais. He was a famous Harrier in his time and still lives at his daughter's household and helps her with teaching the future guardsmen and -women of their family in the autumn of 1039 KF. Although he would like to see Pasco as a Harrier he also knows the importance of his ambient magic being trained and scolds him for not telling his family sooner of it. Abbas Qais only appears as a minor character in Magic Steps.
