Dakala was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, a rogue planet without a parent star system, discovered in the year 2151 by the United Earth starship Enterprise. It exists in perpetual darkness, however the surface is teeming with non-photosynthetic plant lifeforms and a diverse animal population, many of which possess bioluminescence. Geologic gases venting from the interior keep the planet warm and most of the life is concentrated near them. It was home to the Wraiths, which were hunted by the Eska. This stopped in 2151 when Captain Jonathan Archer gave the Wraiths a compound developed by Doctor Phlox that masked their chemical signature, allowing them to escape from the Eska.
