Akis(Acis) was a river-god of eastern Sikelia. He was originally a Sikelian young man who was loved by the Nereid Galateia whose rival Polyphemos, killed him by throwing a boulder at him. The gods pitied him and transformed the dying youth into a river and made him the god of it.
