The 1996 version of Battle Zone was the first version. It had fewer levels and more bugs than Battle Zone (1998). The evidence that it was ever changed was in Andrew Gowers news page on his site. This read: 23rd August 98 - Updated BattleZone on atari page, more levels and a few bugfixes.
