Behn-Kehn-Mehn was determined to capture the Temple quickly and sent his subordinate Colonel Kreeb with an offer of surrender for the Jedi. This was rejected by Jedi Master Nin, who was commanding the Temple's defense while Yoda organised the evacuation, and the Temple's shields were activated while Republic forces prepared to attack.
