The unnamed Vet put Schmeichel to sleep in November 2011 after Chesney Brown reluctantly agreed that it was best for his Great Dane, who had fallen ill with liver disease and cancer. The vet told him that Schmeichel would be in no pain whatsoever and that he could cradle him as he died.
