From May 17-23 1968, Jim Steinman directed a production of Michael McClure's The Beard at Stone Hall Theater at Amherst College. Steinman was quoted in a news article as follows: "The whole tone of the play is touchy, for McClure sets no limit on the language he utilizes in the script."
