Tom Smith is a colonist, assisting a group of settlers to place roots on the planet Pharisee. While examining the planet, Smith and the leader of the colonial expedition see a piranosaur killing a winky. Tom shoots the piranosaur and adopts the winky, a name given by the leader due to the rodentish creature's rapid eye-blinking.
