St George's Hospital is a major teaching hospital now located in Tooting but originally situated at Hyde Park Corner. The hospital dates from 1733, when it was founded at Lanesborough House at Hyde Park Corner. In 1859 the hospital was left a large sum of money by one of its governors, Atkinson Morley, allowing them to build a daughter institution, the Atkinson Morley Hospital in Wimbledon, which opened in 1869.
