Wek-baas was a clear condensed venom obtained from the spines of several species of lionfish native to warm ocean shallows, particularly coral reefs. Wek-baas acted causing sleep plus degeneration of balance and hearing or total paralysis. The raw venom had the same effects but was somewhat weaker.
