Silvio P. DeVita is a Sicilian born mobster with the Genovese crime family who currently leads the old Boirado/Newark crew. After capo Andrew Gerardo retired in the 1990's the crew was taken over by DeVita. The crew operates mainly in Essex county, where DeVita runs illegal operations from illegal gambling, loansharking to insurance fraud, extorting construction sites and union racketeering. He is said to keep strong family and criminal ties to Sicily. The crew is believed to have increased in size by recruiting more Sicilians ("Zips") who share blood and marriage ties with DeVita. He was placed on the New Jersey State Casino Control Commission Exclusion List that bars him from any casino in that state.
