It is Bonfire night but there's no one to supervise the communal bonfire. Norma is devastated to learn Ken is married. She feels she can't take any more humiliation and plans to leave. Albert appraises Janet's cooking and gives cautious compliments. Alan agrees to supervise the fireworks. Len talks Ena into going to St. Anne's. Norma forces herself to wish Ken congratulations as he buys drinks for everyone in the Rovers. The residents watch the fireworks although Annie refuses to let Bet have the night off to watch. A spark lands in an open box of fireworks, setting them off and burning Mark Hillkirk. Ken throws water over him and yells for an ambulance to be called.
