Recognizing the growing need for anti-capital ship weaponry, the designers at Kuat Systems Engineering produced a limited number of MorningStar Assault Starfighters, which were intended to ward off capital ships while still providing a solid starfighter screen. As more and more pirates, mercenaries, and outlaws gained control over powerful warships of capital size, the demand for a countermeasure from planets that did not produce their own starfighters became readily apparent.
