Sometime after his release, Trusty worked with Voten's employee Hide Johnson to train a panther to steal briefcases or purses from people. When Dick Tracy discovered Hide's involvement in the thefts, Hide brought the panthers to Trusty. Trusty and Hide then went to steal money from the Gambling Syndicate (which had no established connection to the Apparatus). Tracy and the police arrived and Hide was killed. Trusty tried to retrieve the stolen money from a panther but was clawed to death.
