The family was founded by Tomaso Falcone in 1957, who was later assassinated during the Vinci-Falcone War. The family then became headed by Don Carlo Falcone. During Falcone's rule, the Falcone's became a ruthless rising star in the NYC underworld. They became the second most powerful family in New York and were the family that Vito Corleone and Joe Clemenza would eventually join. However, due to the death of Falcone and many of their men, they were weakened significantly. The Falcones were related to the Cuneo Family.
