He joined the Fribourg team as a 17 year old in 2003 and has been a regular ever since. The Minnesota Wild chose him 117th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Sprunger also played for Switzerland's team in the 2006 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, 2008 World Championship, and the 2010 Olympics.
