The United States Presidential election of 2012 was held on November 6, 2012 to elect the President of the United States. Incumbent Democrat Rudy Giuliani of New York was defeated by Socialist candidate Andrew Cuomo, Governor of New York. It was the first time since __ that both candidates hailed from the same state and the first time a sitting President had been unseated by a candidate from his home state. With Cuomo's election, he became the first son of a former President elected since the 1820s.
