Pickups After winning the MJHL Championship, and therefore qualifying for the Memorial Cup playoffs, the Kings were allowed 5 pick-ups (3 skaters and 2 goaltenders). The Kings applied to have the ratio changed to 4 skaters and 1 goaltender, but that was rejected. The Kings selected Selkirk’s Norm Cherrey, Kenora’s Howie Hicks, St. Boniface’s Bill Palmer and Mickey Walsh. The second goalie spot was never filled, having acquired Rick Sawry from the Brandon Wheat Kings late in the season. Adding Hicks was a gamble, officially Kenora was under Thunder Bay Amateur Hockey Association jurisdiction, therefore he was ineligible to play in the semi final.
