While searching for the wreck of the Nezark, Janu manned the sonar position on the CNV Clement. He became confused when he was unable to find the landmarks around the Nezark's position, despite being on the correct position on the map. He and fellow Gorasni CWO Teodor Marisc argued with Commander Garcia, insisting that he had taken them to the wrong spot, since underwater landmarks didn't move. They then discovered the whole seabed around the area had changed, and eventually found the Nezark.
