Nightmare is the moniker only taken up by Siegfried under the influence of Soul Edge. Other characters have been possessed by the blade but only Siegfried has actually changed his identity under its influence and the only one to go through transformations. In Soul Calibur III, Nightmare finally becomes a separate entity
