The Repulse-class Frigates were seen by the Black Star Confederacy as the solution to their pirate problem. Since the Confederate Navy began assigning these vessels to escort duty in 14 BBY, pirates found it deadly attacking Confederate convoys. These vessels proved to be a great deterrent to pirate attacks. The Muir Corporation obtained the design in 14 ABY. In 17 ABY, the Confederate version of the class was upgraded with antimatter reactors and BioComps.
