The show was created by comedienne\actress Roseanne Barr in her first attempt at a cartoon. It premiered on September 8, 1990 and aired for 13 episodes, lasting until December 22, 1990. After the show's first season, ABC executives told Roseanne that they needed to change a few things, but they couldn't agree on them and ABC officially cancelled the show before a second season could be produced (in which Roseanne would have taken over voicing her character). Two years later on May 15, 1992, an animated special called "The Rosey and Buddy Show" was produced as a prime-time special.
