The Rubicon was one of three battle cruisers, along with RSE Actium and RSE Pharsalus, that intercepted the ISS Excelsior when it crossed from Klingon space to Romulan territory in 2293. In order to keep the presence of Excelsior a secret, Captain Hikaru Sulu (who had assumed the mirror Sulu's place on Excelsior) was forced to order his fighters to destroy the Romulans.
