He played junior hockey for the North Bay Trappers, Kitchener Rangers, and Sudbury Wolves from 1973 to 1977. The Cleveland Barons chose him 59th overall in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. Baby turned pro in 1977-78 and played 24 games for the Barons as well as playing in the minors. At the end of the season the Barons were merged into the Minnesota North Stars and Baby played two games for the Stars - his last NHL games as it turned out.
