Anti-beam depth charges were cylindrical pods that could be released by some warships, which detonated and released clouds of beam-absorbing particles. These particles dispersed relatively quickly in atmospheric conditions, but temporarily reduced the power of energy weapons. These particles had the same effect on energy weapons fired by the ship that deployed them. Anti-beam depth charges were typically used to cover a retreat.
