Juanlian Dajiang or Kenren Taishou is one of the three disciples of Xuanzang in the Chinese novel [//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Journey to the West]. He was originally a curtain-lifting journal in Heaven before breaking a vase, which resulted in the Jade Emperor having him struck 800 times with a rod and exiling him to Earth, where he was reborn as a man-eating sand demon. Afterward he was recruited by the Bodhisattva Guanyin to serve as a bodyguard for Xuanzang.
