In the 1600's, there was war between vampires and witches, and she blood-tied to herself to Hunter Redfern (the patriarch of the Redfern family), as he is desperate for an heir (his son, Chervil, is believed dead). However, with Hunter, Maeve has one daughters Roseclear. Her three eldest step-children (Garnet, Lily & Dove) were raised as lamia by Hunter (so they bore the Redfern name), while she raised her youngest daughter, Roseclear, as a witch (so she bore the Harman name).
