Abd al-Rahman, a man from the Maghrib (north Africa) is a word traveler. He has a feather from a young Roc. He describes how his ship landed on an island where they found a huge dome, which turned out to be a giant egg. They broke it open and ate the young bird inside, but were caught by the mother roc. They fled and she threw a huge boulder at their ship. However, the ship escaped. Some of the old men in the crew, having eaten the Roc's flesh, found that their hair had turned black, and no one who had eaten the bird's flesh ever had grey hair after that.
