The United States Army is the only military/governmental organization that has a program that produces psychiatric/mental health nurses. These nurses are already registered nurses (RNs) who have decided to specialize in this field. The school is held at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. The school is held twice yearly and produces approximately eight nurses a year. These nurses are then sent forward to other bases.
