Germany (French: Alemagne; German: Deutschland; Russian: Германия/Germaniya) is the term often associated with the Central Department, which formerly was known as the Grand Duchy of Germany. As both are a mouthful, "Germany" has often been the accepted term for the territory of Central Europe between the Rhine and the Vistula, north of the Danube, and south of the Baltic Sea. The primary language in Germany is German, which is the second-most spoken language in the French Empire, and the 2007 French census found that about 82% of all Germans are bilingual (speaking French and German).
