Fanuial was a Dragonlord, and member of the Phoenix Guard and the Red Boot Company during the early days of the reign of Tortaalik. Fanuial, having rudely commented on an unknown noble of the House of the Hawk, had taken extreme exception to Tazendra's invitation to find four or five friends and only then raise his sword against her. His extreme rashness in attacking without his friends was quickly rewarded by being on the receiving end of one of Tazendra's flashstones, and he was instantly killed.
