Bernard Dahl was the Chairman of the Federal Reserve until his death in 2000. He had been appointed to the position by President Owen Lassiter in 1989. Upon Dahl's death, President Bartlet was prepared to name Ron Erlich to succeed him and struggled with the decision as Erlich had once dated his wife Abbey.
