At the time of the events described in The Tasks of Tantalon, Captain Schankerman operated a cargo ship out of the port at Eedefork in Gallantaria. "Schankerman" is a name of "German"-type characteristic of parts of the Old World, in particular Gallantaria and western Mauristatia. His cargo ship carried supplies up the Border River and he is known to have helped Tantalon’s Heir into Castle Stinn.
