Samuel J. Becker was an obscure English scientist of the 17th century. Becker made his living by stealing inventions and ideas from other scientists and students, which was made clear in his diary. Marshall College's Meal Hall was originally named Becker Hall after the scientist until around 1906 when his diary was discovered by a descendant and Becker's thievery was revealed.
