Rectangular Shield types included Tower Shields rectangular, semi-cylindrical body shield for fighting with lance, Pilum and Short sword, greater Pavise types, usually used to cover Archers and Crossbowmen and the even greater mantlets, large shield or portable shelter against arrows and darts. Smaller Square Shield types were also known, including square Small Shields similar to rectangular Buckler types.
