Greenland is a large island in the north Atlantic Ocean east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Most of Greenland lies north of the Arctic Circle, thus in the Arctic. The southern portion, where most inhabitants live, lies in the Northern Temperate Zone. Greenland, other than the far north where there is little snow, and sheltered coastal areas, is covered with an ice cap.
