The trade language known as Minnisiat was a lingua franca in the space around the frontiers of the Chiss Ascendancy. Minnisiat was the language which the young Commander Thrawn offered to teach Jorj Car'das in lieu of the Chiss language Cheunh, and, five decades later, it was the language in which the Vagaari, masquerading as peaceable Geroons, opened communications with the Chiss consular ship Chaf Envoy.
