Slegg was a naive rat who journeyed with his companion, Gridj. Lost in Mossflower Woods on a stormy night, Slegg attempted to reach the Western Coast by proceeding in the same direction. Gridj took a cynical view of this, and the rats bickered. Slegg claimed to have been "brought up decent", although his exact place of origin is unknown. Slegg was entranced by the lights of the Doomwytes, and accidentally followed them into a swamp in which he drowned.
