Niven Boyd (22nd November 1954 - 28th January 2001) played Reg Dawson, the ex-husband of Viv Windsor and father of Scott, in 1994. He has appeared in other British television series such as Coronation Street, The Bill, Heartbeat, Cadfael and Where the Heart Is and also appeared in films such as Jack & Sarah, Out of Africa and Cry Freedom. He died from a heart attack on 28th January 2001, aged just 46.
