The Sabre Program was an experimental program conducted by the Office of Naval Intelligence, intended to develop a well-armed and maneuverable surface-launched space-superiority starfighter. The product of the program, was the YSS-1000 "Sabre"-class starfighter and several launch sites which were used for orbital defense of Inner Colonies. The program was classified at the highest levels. It was dismissed by three administrations as "preposterous rumor."
